Conference on earthquakes
An international conference in Reykjavík
An international conference on earthquakes, pre-earthquake processes and earthquake prediction research will be held in Reykjavík on Friday, October 30th 2009. The conference is dedicated to the memory of Sigurður Th. Rögnvaldsson, who was a highly promising seismologist.
This year marks the centennial anniversary of earthquake monitoring in Iceland. In addition, it is the 30th anniversary of volumetric strain measurements in boreholes, 20 years since the first station in the present SIL seismic network was installed and the 10th anniversary of the continuous GPS network in Iceland (ISGPS).
An opening address will be given at 08:30 by Steinunn S. Jakobsdóttir, geophysicist. The schedule, location and further information are given on the conference's web-site.
The conference is convened by the Icelandic Meteorological Office in collaboration with the University of Iceland, the University of Akureyri, Reykjavík University, Iceland Geosurvey, the University of Uppsala in Sweden.
