Earthquakes and pre-earthquake processes
An international conference in Reykjavík 30th October
This year marks the centennial of earthquake monitoring in Iceland. In addition, it is the 30th anniversary of volumetric strain measurements in boreholes, 20 years since the first station in the present SIL seismic network was installed and the 10th anniversary of the continuous GPS network in Iceland (ISGPS).
To mark these milestones, the Meteorological Office in collaboration with the University of Iceland, the University of Akureyri, Reykjavík University, Iceland Geosurvey, the University of Uppsala in Sweden and others, will host an international conference on earthquakes, pre-earthquake processes and earthquake prediction research.
The conference will be held on October 30th 2009 in Reykjavík, Iceland, and is dedicated to the memory of Sigurður Th. Rögnvaldsson, geophysicist, who died on 25th October 1999. He was highly respected in earthquake research in Iceland.
