Weekly Overview, 2 - 8. January, 2023
Around 350 earthquakes were measured on the SIL monitoring system of the IMO in the past week, and all of them have been reviewed. This is slightly fewer earthquakes than the previous week when approximately 425 earthquakes were measured. The most activity occurred at Reykjanestá, in Mýrdalsjökull, in Bárðarbunga, and along the Grímsey fracture zone. Three earthquakes measured a magnitude of 3.0 or higher: one on the Reykjanes Ridge on January 3rd, which was also the largest earthquake of the week (magnitude 3.3), one at Reykjanestá on January 6th, and one in Bárðarbunga on January 8th.
