Activity summary:
The eruption which commenced at 21.26 UTC in Sunhnúks crater row on 22 August continues. The main activity is now concentrated in the northernmost segment of the eruptive fissure which extends circa 2,5 km northeast from Stóra Skógafell. Since 10.30 UTC explosive activity is observed. This activity is accompanied by release of volcanic ash in the atmosphere. The aviation color code is maintained at orange as the current activity is not posing a direct threat to the aviation.

Dark plume raises into the atmosphere to a height of about 1000 m as assessed by calibrated cameras. The impact due to tephra fallout is local.
Remarks:
Lava flow is mainly progressing to the NW of the active eruptive fissure. Gas pollution and tephra fallout is expected towards SSE. Volcanic gas (SO2) may reach far distances from Iceland.
