Activity summary:
The effusive eruption which commenced at 22.17 UTC nearby Sundhnúkgigar on 18 December continues. It originates from a fissure 4 km long with its median site at 63.887N, 22.372W. From visual observation the extrusion rate is assessed to be 200-300 m3/s.
The height of lava fountains has decreased over time as well as the extrusion rate.
No ash is detected by radar and the activity is well seen by webcameras.

The volcanic gas plume is well visible from cameras and it is raising up to few hundreds meters asl.
Remarks:
For the time being the main hazard associated with the ongoing eruption is limited to lava and volcanic gas.
