Time: 22. Nov 2023, 18:16 GMT
Color code: Yellow
Volcano id: 371020
Activity summary:
The seismicity in the region of the magmatic dike has declined in the past week. The largest earthquake was a magnitude 3.0 on the 17 November, located near Hagafell. The magma inflow rate in the dike continues but at a lower rate. However, the inflation at Svartsengi resumed soon after the magma intrusion formed on 10 November, and presently the area is inflating at a faster rate than before the intrusion occurred.
The aviation color code is changed to yellow as the likelihood of an eruption has overall diminished.
An eruption is still considered likely to happen, but most likely near Sundhnúkar crater row (approximately 4 km NNE of Grindavík).
The situation could change rapidly as a new phase of magma inflow to the intrusion could begin in the near future. The area continues to be monitored closely by IMO.
Cloud height:
No eruption ongoing.
Other cloud information:
No eruption ongoing.
Remarks:
The likelihood of an eruption occurring offshore is as of today considered very low.
