Activity summary:
The minor effusive eruption which commenced on 10 July continues with no major changes. The activity is now concentrated on the main crater located at 63° 55.132'N, 22° 12.234'W which has now reached a size of 90 m x 40 m. The latest measurements of the lava field were performed by colleagues at the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Institute of Natural History and the National Land Survey of Iceland on 23 July. The average lava effusion rate is assessed to be of 8.0 m3/s for the period 18-23 July. After two weeks of activity, the lava field covers now an area of about 1.2 km2 and the total erupted volume is about 12.4 million cubic meters. No new SO2 flux are available since 18 July when it was assessed to be 40 kg/s. The earthquake activity has slowed down since the onset of the eruption. The earthquake activity has mainly been by Mt. Keilir, which is by the northern end of the dike, and to the east of Keilir.

The gas plume height is within 1-2 km asl as assessed by calibrated cameras

Other cloud information:
No volcanic ash is measured or observed.

Remarks:
Lava flows, gas pollution, grass and moss fires continue being the main hazards posed by the current eruption.
